FUNCTION
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
THE READER is an Online-Mailreader, which will make it easier for
a user to read mail while online. THE READER uses ANSI-Graphic, so
only ANSI users can use THE READER who take on ANSI. THE READER
displays a summary of messages to the user, which can be selected
by functionkeys, so it is very easy for the user to read messages.
Also the User can write or reply to a message via an external Online
-Editor, search thru the Msgbase for keywords, change message areas
or tagging messages.
In addition to that you can make your own language files with the
Full-Screen-Setup program containing in the archive (EDITREAD.EXE)
and THE READER handles two Help-Pages ( READ<Page>_<LngNo>.HLP ).

INSTALLATION & USAGE
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
THE READER is started with the function Type 7 - 'Shell to DOS and
run a program' like a door or an online program. To get more memory
you should swap the BBS to memory. THE READER could be placed in every
directory but be sure that READER.CFG, READER??.LNG, READ?_??.HLP and
READER.ARE (if needed) are in the same directory as READER.EXE.
THE READER is reading EXITINFO.BBS searching in the Line-Path and
MESSAGES.RA (RA) or BOARDS.BBS (SBBS) or MSGCFG.DAT (QBBS) or
MSGAREAS.PB (PROB) searching in the System-Path. Using BBSTyp 'OTHER'
THE READER is reading DORINFOx.DEF and READER.ARE searching in the
System-Path.
■ General Program-Usage
READER.EXE <NodeNo> <Comport> [ Extra Parameters ]
Extra Parameters: -L:<LngNo>
-B:<BoardNo>
-P:<Line-Path>
-A:<AreaDefNo>
NodeNo = 1..250 / Comport = 0..4 / LngNo = 0..99 / AreaDefNo = 0..99
The command-line parameters <NodeNo> and <Comport> are needed while
the Extra Parameters are optinal and can be used in any combination.
*) If there isn't a Language-No. or a wrong one THE READER will use
the built-in english language.
*) If there isn't a Board-No. THE READER will start with changing
the message area.
*) If there isn't a Line-Path (which is needed for Multi-Line
Systems) THE READER will take the current Path.
*) If there isn't a AreaDef-No. (only useful for BBS-Typ 'NONE')
THE READER will take READER.ARE instead of READER<AreaDefNo>.ARE.
Example: READER.EXE 1 2 -B:20 -P:C:\BBS\ -L:2 -A:10
========
NodeNo = 1 / Comport = 2 / BoardNo = 20 / Line-Path = C:\BBS\
LngNo = 2 -> READER2.LNG / AreaDefNo = 10 -> READER10.ARE
■ THE READER under RemoteAccess (RA) Version 1.?? or 2.0?
USAGE:
READER.EXE *N *P -B:*1 -P:\RA\ -L:0 (Stand-alone)
READER.EXE *N *P -B:*1 -P:\RA\LINE*N -L:0 (Multi-Line)
*P stands for the ComPort being used
*1 stands for the currently selected message area
*N stands for the node number
*M tells RA to swap itself out of memory
LngNo = 0 forces THE READER to read the current selected language
number from the RA User-Information file.
■ THE READER under SuperBBS (SBBS) Version 1.17
USAGE:
READER.EXE *N *P -B:@M -P:\SBBS\ -L:<LngNo(0..99)> *E (Stand-alone)
READER.EXE *N *P -B:@M -P:\SBBS\LINE@N -L:<LngNo(0..99)> *E (Multi-Line)
*P stands for the ComPort being used
@M stands for the currently selected message area
*N stands for the node number
*E forces SBBS to read EXITINFO.BBS after returning
*S tells SBBS to swap itself out of memory
■ THE READER under QuickBBS (QBBS) Version 2.76
USAGE:
READER.EXE *N *P -B:*1 -P:\QBBS\ -L:<LngNo(0..99)> (Stand-alone)
READER.EXE *N *P -B:*1 -P:\QBBS\LINE*N -L:<LngNo(0..99)> (Multi-Line)
*P stands for the ComPort being used
*1 stands for the currently selected message area
*N stands for the node number
*M tells QBBS to swap itself out of memory
■ THE READER under ProBoard (PROB) Version 2.0x

READER.EXE *# *P -B@<CurMsgArea#>@ -P:\PB\LINE*# -L:<LngNo(0..99)>
*P stands for the ComPort being used
*# stands for the node number
*X tells ProBoard to swap itself out of memory
@<CurMsgArea#>@ stands for the currently selected message area
■ THE READER under Concord BBS Version 0.01g (OTHER)
Use BBS-Typ 'OTHER' !!!
USAGE:
READER.EXE *N *P -B:@MAREA_NUM@ -P:\CONCORD\ -L:<LngNo(0..99)>
READER.EXE *N *P -B:@MAREA_NUM@ -P:\CONCORD\LINE*N -L:<LngNo(0..99)>
*P stands for the ComPort being used
*N stands for the node number
*S tells Concord to swap itself out of memory
@MAREA_NUM@ stands for the currently selected message area
■ THE READER under OTHER BBS-Programs (OTHER)
THE READER runs with all other BBS-Programs creating DORINFOx.DEF;
it is NOT necessary that the BBS-Program supports the Hudson, JAM or
SQUISH Msgbase-Style, because THE READER will create the Msgbase if
there is not one, using the information from READER.ARE. So it is
important to edit READER.ARE.
USAGE:
READER.EXE <NodeNo> <Comport> -B:<BoardNo> -P:<Line-Path> -L:<LngNo>
NOTE: Using this BBSTyp it is not possible to check access-flags and
to give information to the BBS that an echomail or netmail is
entered. You can solve the second problem if you scan the
Msgbase automatically once a day.
You can force THE READER to read READER?.ARE (eg. READER7.ARE)
using '-A:<AreaDefNo>' (eg. '-A:7') as Extra Parameter, so you
can run up to hundred different READER??.ARE.
EXAMPLE:
READER.EXE 1 2 -B:150 -P:\BBS\LINE*N -L:0 -A:7
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

INTERNET EMAIL SUPPORT
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
It is possilbe to send from your FidoNet-System InterNet Emails to
and from an InterNet (UUCP) Gateway. THE READER converts a FidoNet-
Style message to a message acceptable to an InterNet-Host-Gateway
System. In order to send a message from FidoNet to an InterNet-Gate
(UUCP-Gate) some formating restrictions must be followed or the
message will not be accepted from the InterNet-Gate. First you need a
NetMail-Address of an InterNet-Gateway-Host. Your Tosser will handle
this formatted message like a normal Fido-Netmail and will route the
message to the InterNet-Gateway-Host.
EMail AreaNum : THE READER expected an Area-Number, which must be an
NetMail-Folder.
Gate-Address : THE READER expected a NetMail-Address of your
InterNet-Gateway-Host.
Costs : How much costs for sending one InterNet EMail.
'0' means no costs.
Msg TO: Line : Usually 'UUCP'.
